Oscars 2018
The dress Moreno wore to accept her best-supporting-actress Oscar in 1962 had another go-round on the red carpet.

Rita Moreno, one of only 12 people in history to have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, has made her return to the Oscars red carpet in serious style. The 86-year-old actress, singer, and dancer walked the red carpet wearing the exact same dress she wore to accept her Oscar in 1962 for West Side Story. “I would think it would tarnish!” she told Ryan Seacrest during the E! broadcast, before reminiscing about her 15-second acceptance speech. “I had no idea I was going to win, I was sure it was going to be Judy Garland for Judgment at Nuremberg. I flew in from Manila in the Philippines just in case, which is where this gown was made.”
Vanity Fair’s Rebecca Keegan broke the news in her report from the Oscars rehearsals, where Moreno’s daughter, Fernanda Luisa Fisher, revealed her mother’s plans. Moreno, who suggested she would “have a heart attack” because of the big-name actress scheduled to sit behind her, later confirmed the plans on Twitter, making her one of the rare octogenarians who truly understands the power of social-media hype.

Currently starring on Netflix’s One Day at at Time, Moreno has won two primetime Emmys—for appearances on The Muppet Show and The Rockford Files—a Grammy for best recording for children for The Electric Company, and a Tony for best featured actress in a play for The Ritz. At the Golden Globes in January, Moreno reunited on stage with her Electric Company co-star Morgan Freeman, the recipient of that night’s honorary award, and made an entirely different dramatic entrance on the red carpet: riding on an electric scooter with TV producer and original One Day at a Time creator Norman Lear.
